Biographies
Board Member: Stephen McAdams, MD
Dr. McAdams graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Dr. McAdams is the CEO of Mid Carolina Cardiology with offices in Charlotte, Huntersville, Gastonia, Matthews and Salisbury.
Medical Director: Lou Ann McAdams, MD Family Practice
Dr. Lou Ann McAdams graduated from the University of Notre Dame and subsequently from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed a family practice residency at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis. She is board certified in Family Practice, and oversees the clinical operations of the Matthews Free Clinic with the clinic Executive Director. She and her husband Steve have teenage twin daughters.
Chairman of the Board: Jerry McGuire
Jerry is Vice President and Senior Commercial Lender with Bank of Granite in Matthews. He has been in the Charlotte/Matthews area since 1979 when he moved here from New York City, where he attended Brooklyn College. Jerry has 24-years of experience in the banking industry, owned a consulting business and, prior to joining Bank of Granite, was Operations Executive of the Siskey Family YMCA in Matthews. Over the years, he has been involved with several not-for-profit organizations in the area and is a Past President of the Matthews Chamber of Commerce. Jerry and his wife, Susan, live in Union County, and have seven children.
Board Member: Jeff Sherman
Jeff Sherman, originally from Western, NY, served four years in the US Navy and attended Ohio State University, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Accounting. After spending time working as a manager of Deloitte and Touché, controller of Bath and Body Works, and assistant controller of Auto Nation USA, he joined Harris Teeter, Inc. in 1998 and presently works as Senior Vice President Finance/CFO and also serves on their Board of Directors. Jeff has been involved in many community organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Siskey YMCA. He lives in Charlotte with his wife and two children.
Executive Director: Amber Tracewell
Amber, originally from West Virginia, has been with the Clinic since September 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science, as well as a Master’s in Public Administration with a specialization in Healthcare Administration and Non-Profit Management from West Virginia University. She brings to the Clinic administrative and management experience as well as grant writing skills. Amber is responsible for staff supervision and management of all aspects of the Clinic’s day-to-day operations, and participates in fundraising and community involvement activities.
Teresa Starr
Teresa has lived in Charlotte for 18 years. She is originally from Virginia. She attended William and Mary for her undergraduate degree and graduated UNC Chapel Hill with a Masters in Science and Public Health. She is married to Gary Starr, DDS., an orthodontist whose practice is in Matthews. She has three children and is very involved as a volunteer with their school. She has been helping at the clinic since May 2007.
John Urban
John is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Arts, Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture. A resident and business owner in the Town of Matthews, John is a licensed Architect and the principal of Urban Architectural Group PA. John is active in the Matthews community and currently serves as the Chairman for the Matthews Appearance and Tree Advisory Board as well as a Board Member for the Matthews Historic Foundation and Matthews Economic Development Advisory Council.
Mark Bryant
Mark is currently the Director of the MBA Program for Wingate University, which resides at Wingate’s Metro Campus in downtown Matthews. Prior to joining Wingate University, Mark had 20 years of experience in the financial services industry including serving as senior director in the product management group for LendingTree in Charlotte, as product manager/vice president in the product management group for Bank of America, as well as in marketing and lending positions with Beneficial Corporation and Equitable Bank. A resident of the Marvin-Weddington area with his wife and three children, Mark holds an MBA from Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management and earned a B.S in finance and economics from the University of Delaware. He has been a member of the Matthews Health Clinic Board of Directors since September 2008.
James Greene
Mark Burdette
Mark Burdette is a native of North Carolina and is currently residing with his wife, Judy in Indian Trail. Their two children, Mamie and Jen are both married. Mark has worked in the telecommunications industry and owned his own technology company for twenty years. He recently decided to pursue a new career in real estate, working with the Moser Group Realty in Indian Trail. Mark is active in his church and the local community and is serving on the Board of the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Tracy Phillips
Tracey moved to Charlotte from Upstate, NY in 1984. After starting her career in healthcare, she decided to accept a position with Technocom Business Systems where she is a Territory Manager. She and her husband, Jeff live in Indian Trail and have two sons, Jordan and Brandon. Tracey is active in the community serving in the Matthews Rotary in addition to various responsibilities within her church.
