Board of Directors

Jerry McGuire, President, Board of Directors

Jerry is Vice President and Commercial Lender with Bank of Granite in Matthews.  He has lived in the Charlotte/Matthews area since 1979, when he moved from New York City, where he attended Brooklyn College.  Jerry has more than 25-years experience in the banking industry.  He has also owned a consulting business and was Operations Executive of a not-for-profit organization in Matthews.

Jerry is a member of the Matthews Rotary Club and will serve the Club as its President-Elect in 2010 – 2011.  He is a Paul Harris Fellow and received the Club’s Distinguished Rotarian Award in 2010. Jerry is an Ambassador and Past President of the Matthews Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves on the Town of Matthews Economic Development Advisory Committee.

Stephen McAdams, MD, Board Member

Dr. McAdams graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Dr. McAdams is the CEO of Mid Carolina Cardiology with offices in Charlotte, Huntersville, Gastonia, Matthews, Salisbury and Monroe.

Lou Ann McAdams, MD, Board Member & MFMC Medical Director

Dr. Lou Ann McAdams graduated from the University of Notre Dame and subsequently from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed a family practice residency at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis. She is board certified in Family Practice, and oversees the clinical operations of the Matthews Free Medical Clinic. She and her husband Steve have teenage twin daughters.

Jimmy Greene, Board Member

Jimmy Greene is a partner with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein and serves as the Firm's Tax Practice Group Leader.   He graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.S. in Accounting and earned his JD, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Mr. Greene is a certified public accountant and recently received the Business North Carolina magazine's designation of "Legal Elite" and he has been recognized as one of the Charlotte Business Journal's  40 Under 40.  Jimmy’s  community  involvement includes current or past service on the boards of the following  organizations:  Speedway Children's' Charities, Charlotte Community Health Clinic and the UNCC Alumni Association Board of Governors.  He lives in Charlotte with his wife, Sarah, and their twin boys, Holden and Stokes.

Teresa Starr, Board Member

Teresa has lived in Charlotte for 20 years.  She is originally from Virginia. She attended William and Mary for her undergraduate degree and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Health Policy and Administration.  She is married to Gary Starr, DDS., an orthodontist whose practice is in Matthews. She has three teenagers, one in college. She has been helping at the clinic since May 2007 and is very active in the community serving as a member of the Women’s Impact Fund and on the Board of Advisors at Providence Day School.

Mark Burdette, Board Member

Mark Burdette is a native of North Carolina and is currently residing with his wife, Judy in Indian Trail. Their two children, Mamie and Jen are both married. Mark has worked in the telecommunications industry and owned his own technology company for twenty years. He recently decided to pursue a new career in real estate, working with the Moser Group Realty in Indian Trail. Mark is active in his church and the local community and is serving on the Board of the Union County Chamber of Commerce.

Mark Bryant, Board Member

Mark is currently the Director of the MBA Program for Wingate University, which resides at Wingate’s Metro Campus in downtown Matthews.  Prior to joining Wingate University, Mark had 20 years of experience in the financial services industry including serving as senior director in the product management group for LendingTree in Charlotte, as product manager/vice president in the product management group for Bank of America, as well as in marketing and lending positions with Beneficial Corporation and Equitable Bank.

A resident of the Marvin-Weddington area with his wife and three children, Mark holds an MBA from Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management and earned a B.S in finance and economics from the University of Delaware.  He has been a member of the Matthews Health Clinic Board of Directors since September 2008.

John Urban, Board Member

John is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Arts, Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture. A resident and business owner in the Town of Matthews, John is a licensed Architect and the principal of Urban Architectural Group PA. John is active in the Matthews community and currently serves as Comissioner of the Town of Matthews as well as a Board Member for the Matthews Historic Foundation and Matthews Economic Development Advisory Council.

Tracy Phillips, Board Member

Tracey moved to Charlotte from Upstate, NY in 1984.  After starting her career in healthcare, she decided to accept a position with Technocom Business Systems where she is a Territory Manager.  She and her husband, Jeff live in Indian Trail and have two sons, Jordan and Brandon.  Tracey is active in the community serving in the Matthews Rotary in addition to various responsibilities within her church.

Michael Urquhart, Board Member

Michael is the Area Manager for Windstream Communications and is responsible for wire-line telephone and broadband service operations for the areas serving Matthews, Mooresville and much of Union County.  He began his career in 1979 with Windstream as a field service technician in Ohio and has worked his way through the organization holding a variety of management positions in Engineering, Customer Service, and Field Operations.  A resident of the Matthews area with his wife and two children, Michael holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Lake Land Community College in Kirtland Ohio. He has been a member of the Matthews Free Medical Clinic Board of Directors since July 2010.

Jennifer Porter, Board Member

Jenny is a tax manager with the firm Blair, Bohlé & Whitsitt, PLLC where she serves small business clients in the healthcare and services industries. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration. She earned her CPA certification in 1990. She and her husband Charlie have four children and are active members of Sardis Presbyterian Church where Jenny has served as a deacon and elder.

Scott Harris, Board Member

Scott is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Marketing and Management. He is employed by Choate Construction Company as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. Scott and his wife Susie have lived in Charlotte for the past 25 years. They have two children, McKinsey, 23, and Tucker, 22.

Amy Carr, MBA

Amy graduated magna cum laude from Montreat College with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration. Originally from Pennsylvania, she has resided in Charlotte since 1999. Amy has had an active role with non-profits in our community for over six years. She and her husband Ken have three children and attend Elevation Church.

Jacqueline L. Olin, MS, PharmD, BCPS, CPP

Jacky has been covering pharmacy responsibilities for the Matthews Free Medical Clinic. She is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Wingate University School of Pharmacy, and her practice site is at the clinic. Jacky and the pharmacy students provide medication therapy management services along with group and individual education on lifestyle and medication-related topics. Jacky is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and clinical pharmacist practitioner. Per Jacky: “I am thrilled to work along with such great people serving our community!”

Laura Witmer, RN, Nurse Manager

Laura attended Indiana University and graduated from New York State University in 1992. Laura comes with over 23 years of hospital experience working in Outpatient Surgery, Med/Surg, Oncology, ICU, Blood Bank, Physicians Offices, and teaching at a Community College. Laura moved to Charlotte in August to be closer to her family. She has 3 grown sons and 3 grandchildren.

Christy Story, Office Manager

Christy is originally from Ohio and has lived in the Charlotte area for 27 years.  She has worked at the clinic since January 2009.  She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.  She lives in Matthews with her husband, Bill, and their two children, Carolina and Trey.

Mary T. Crowder, MD

Dr. Mary T. Crowder, MD, FACOG, graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and received her medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, NY.  She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and practiced full-time OB/GYN for 15 years here in Charlotte with the Bradford Clinic until 2005. She has been with the Matthews Free Medical Clinic since 2006, having started their women’s clinic division.  She also served several years on the clinic’s board.  Currently, she divides her time between her family, volunteering at the Matthews Free Clinic and Charlotte Community Health Clinic, and working part-time with her former partner, Ron Brown, at Carolina Healthspan Institute here in Charlotte in the practice of menopausal and anti-aging/preventative medicine.  She and her husband of 18 years, Reed Paden, have two teenage sons Will and Drew Paden.  Dr. Crowder also has a step-daughter, Sarah Paden Boone, and new son-in-law Jason Boone, who also reside in Charlotte.
